What is Gelli printing?
Gelli printing is a form of monoprinting that uses a soft, flexible, gelatin-like plate called a "gelli plate." It is a popular and accessible printmaking technique, ideal for beginners and experienced artists alike. The process is simple and does not require a printing press or complex equipment, making it a favorite for at-home or classroom art projects.
Gelli printing allows for experimentation with various techniques and materials, such as layering prints, mixing colors, and using different textures. It is often used in mixed media art, journaling, and for creating backgrounds. Unlike traditional printmaking techniques, gelli printing can be done without the need for a printing press. The soft plate and hand pressure are enough to transfer the image.
